4 OUT OF 5 STARS
“There’s always room for love. Even if it’s as small as a crack in the door.”
Kiera Cass’s The Selection series is one of my all time favorite series, so I had very high expectations for this book! While Kahlen and Akinli are no America and Maxon, I still loved their story! Kiera has a way of bringing you straight into her worlds and making you want to never leave!
Plus this has Sirens in this so you know I was hooked right away!
Learning about the mythology of Sirens through Kiera’s world was very interesting! I always viewed Siren’s as mermaids, but they are in fact not mermaids and are actually so much cooler!
I really loved Kahlen our main character because she isn’t like the new young adult badass characters. Don’t get me wrong I love a good badass, but Kahlen was a refreshing breath of air from all of them. She is kind, compassionate and holds her heart on her sleeve. While her Siren sisters are great counterparts to her being spunky, sassy and full of life. They balanced each other out, and I really liked this dynamic of sisterhood in the story.
Along with the sisterly love we get in this book you also have the forbidden romance as a central plot point. The romance was sweet, cute and reminded me something straight out of a Disney princess movie. Which I am a massive sucker for a Disney romance! I think that Akinli as a character was charming and such a gentleman you couldn’t help but fall in love with him too!
Overall if you are looking for an easy and fun forbidden romance story that has Siren’s in it this summer I would pick this novel up and give it a try. It would be the perfect pool day or beach read for you to fall directly into!
Also a fun fact this novel was self-published before it was picked up by Kiera’s publisher! How amazingly awesome is that!
SYNOPSIS:
Love is a risk worth taking. Years ago, Kahlen was rescued from drowning by the Ocean. To repay her debt, she has served as a Siren ever since, using her voice to lure countless strangers to their deaths. Though a single word from Kahlen can kill, she can’t resist spending her days on land, watching ordinary people and longing for the day when she will be able to speak and laugh and live freely among them again. Kahlen is resigned to finishing her sentence in solitude…until she meets Akinli. Handsome, caring, and kind, Akinli is everything Kahlen ever dreamed of. And though she can’t talk to him, they soon forge a connection neither of them can deny…and Kahlen doesn’t want to. Falling in love with a human breaks all the Ocean’s rules, and if the Ocean discovers Kahlen’s feelings, she’ll be forced to leave Akinli for good. But for the first time in a lifetime of following the rules, Kahlen is determined to follow her heart.
